Homeless Assistance

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act

If your family lives in any of the following situations:

  • Temporarily doubled up with friends or family because you cannot find or afford housing

  • Living in a motel, hotel, trailer park or campground due to lack of alternative adequate accommodations

  • Living in a car, park, abandoned building, bus or train station or similar setting

  • You are an unaccompanied youth, under the age of 18, living without a parent/guardian

  • Abandoned in a hospital or awaiting foster care

  • Living in an emergency shelter or transitional housing

Your child may be eligible for:

  • Free breakfast and lunch programs

  • Transportation services

  • Special transportation for children to remain in their school of origin

  • Tutoring programs

  • Programs to help children learn English

  • Gifted or talented programs

  • Summer school programs

  • Pre-school programs

  • After-school programs

  • Special education programs, especially if the student received special education services at their previous school
